Introduction and Profile
Simba Media Centre has a Radio- Simba Radio , FM radio based in Mogadishu which is broadcast from Elenos FM95.00 mhz and it’s signal goes out in the following districts of Somalia including :Brava, Baidoa, Merka, Afgoi, Wanla Wein, Burhakaba, Jowhar, Elma’an, Warsheikh, Adale, Jamame, Lego, Jilib, Diinsoor, Huddur and Jalalaqsi.
Simba Radio works with the standard of the accepted code of Journalism ethics of accuracy, impartiality and responsibility.
Simba Radio Radio eas launched and broadcasted officially on July 8, 2006 and one year after it’s first program now has the confidence and popularity among the public.
Simba Radio dissiminates information among the public , raises awareness in the community, tries to reduce hate speech through radio talk shows , promote peace building, culture for peace and promotes poverty eradication programs, fighting against HIV/AIDS, FGM , reconciliation and peace in Somalia.
Objectives:
Our role is to enable the public to make well-informed by delivering news which is accurate and impartial.
Providing reliable information to the public which requires additional journalism skills with professionalism adopting the accepted standards of accuracy, impartiality and responsibility, to remove personal values and bias.
In our reporting we are supposed to be colour-blind, while culture and race have no influence, we rely on diverse.
Our main objectives include:
- Respecting the truth and the right of the people to know the truth.
- Reporting the facts that we know where they originally come from.
- Doing utmost to correct inaccurate dissiminations
Simba Radio shall consider the following as offences against the profession:
Plagiarism
Falsification
Defamation, insult and baseless accusation
Acceptance of bribe of any type if aimed for dissimination or suppression.
Radio Simba is dedicated to the right of all journalists exercise their profession free from persecution, physical attack and other dangers of life and limb.
Implementation
In addition to educating, entertaining and informing , the Organizers of Simba Media Centre mostly independent Somali intellectuals set up and supported peace media efforts and undertook initiatives to counter hate media by creating a system of dissimination and undertook media campaigns about peace building and supporting reconciliation in Somalia by displaying audio programs on the current issues in the country.
Activities
Simba Media Centre help prevent or reduce conflict, those promoting peace media can:
• Discourage and avoid the use of media to promote ethnic and political conflict.
¨ Counter use of the media for such purposes. ¨ Support efforts to deliver accurate, timely news and information in a non-polemical manner that can counter the distortions broadcast by others.
¨ Provide opposing views.
• Exert pressure on the Somali government not have a monopoly on use of radio or control of the media.
• Provide training in political reporting and investigative journalism, reducing bias, and other steps to enhance media professionals’ capabilities, including peace training, as covered in a separate profile in this section.
• Promote laws that monitor and ensure that media are not used to undermine democracy and individual freedom, violate human rights, or incite violent conflict.
• Develop independent organizations to keep track of rumors circulating in the country that might incite conflict, then use media to refute them and disseminate the truth as widely as possible.
• Encourage international sanctions against hate media.
• Provide a forum for moderate voices to ensure they are heard in the media.
Support NGOs engaged in peace media efforts such as Search for Common Ground.
Timeframe to see results
Once in place, Simba Media Centre show rapid results and have a long-lasting impact on the conflict situation in Somalia since it was established July 28, 2006
