Huriwaa is relatively calm
Mugadishu, Tuesday, 05 August- 2008 [Radio Simba]

The security situation in Huriwaa is reportedly calm following yesterday's clashes.

Heavy fighting between the Ethiopian forces and troops loyal to the union of Islamic courts left 12 dead and 15 wounded on Monday.

The spokesman of the Islamic courts union, Sheikh Abdirahin Isse Adow, told radio Simba they attacked Ethiopian military bases in the ex pasta factory and Hayle Barise building.

“We attacked them and inflicted casualties on them”, he added.

He also said that two of their men martyred while two others sustained wounds.

During the fighting rocket propelled grenades, machine guns and hand grenades were used.

Several mortar shells hit residential areas witnesses in the area said.

On the other hand, the Somali government military spokesman, Dahir Maxamed Xirsi, told radio Simba they had captured weapons from the other said.
